Claims Analyst
at Plymouth Rock Assurance in Massachusetts

The Claims Analyst’s mission will be to provide in-depth analytical support required to manage our Claims Department. The successful candidate will participate in a broad range of analytical activities designed to help Plymouth Rock maintain and extend its competitive edge with respect to loss management, claims customer service, expense control, and employee engagement.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Work closely with Claims Department management and other business functions producing both recurring (production) and ad hoc analyses
Produce and analyze monthly results reports against operational metrics, and deliver same to senior management
Monitor company performance relative to history, targets and the competition through internal data sources, industry data and other publicly available data.
Develop the best possible set of metrics that enable maximum executive understanding of how Claims is performing relative to our competition.
Take the lead in assembling and structuring data for analysis and introducing automation techniques where appropriate.
Work with the Claims Department’s management team to extend analytic approaches to problem solving across the department, while enforcing a rigorous adherence to the scientific method and the preparation and presentation of findings.
Assist in business research by participating in hypothesis generation, gathering data, identifying root causes of problems or opportunities and proposing solutions, on the basis of analytic findings
Provide other Claims Department analytical support as needed
Technical Proficiency
Advanced knowledge of Excel
Proficient in other Microsoft Office suite products
Comfort in working with relational databases
Knowledge of one or more of the following: MS Access, SQL, DB2, Hyperion, Business Objects or similar business intelligence tool(s)
Ability to manage structured and non-structured data from multiple sources
Deep working understanding of statistical analysis
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in either business or an analytical discipline desired (engineering, statistics, economics, or mathematics)
Prior claims and/or insurance experience a plus but not required
Prior programming experience a plus but not required
Skills and Abilities
Exceptional analytical and creative problem solving abilities
Ability to effectively communicate results and ideas (both verbal and written skills) to Claims leadership, and to other audiences outside the department
Intrinsic sense of urgency with ability to prioritize workload, meet project deadlines and drive results
Intellectually curious and interested in exploring new ways to analyze data
Ability to analyze both financial and non-financial quantitative data, determine trends, identify anomalous results, draw conclusions and communicate findings
