Full-time Commerical Underwriter with 1-3 years Experience

Currently, Chubb is seeking a Commercial Underwriter for the Warren, NJ office. This position is for an “Underwriter I” and the ideal experience would be 1-3 years.

As a Commercial Insurance Underwriter, you are accountable for:
• Financial performance of an $7M to $9M book of middle market commercial business in which account premiums range from $50,000 to $1,000,000.
• Achieving profitable growth for the New Jersey within the following lines of business: package, automobile, workers compensation and umbrella for both domestic and international exposures for a wide variety of customers and market segments.
• Soliciting, risk selection and analysis (including documentation), pricing and sales of products and services for new business.
• Successful market penetration and agency management including acting as a key contact to build, maintain and manage customer/producer relationships (including regular agency visits based on business need).
• Identifying opportunities for growth within new and existing production sources.
• Performing front door management to filter new business and reinforce appetite.
• Assist with agency planning and goal setting including monitoring of progress.
• Identifying cross sell opportunities.
• Meeting with new and renewal customers, individually or as part of a Chubb team, to make sales presentations and negotiate coverage's, price, financial terms and service delivery, as necessary.
• Working in a team environment with Underwriters, Loss Control, Claims and Operations.
• Meeting service standards of a customer focused strategy.
• Collecting and sharing competitor data with team.

Knowledge, skills and abilities:
• Working knowledge of commercial underwriting and insurance industry theories and practices.
• Demonstrated technical expertise and product specific knowledge.
• Proven, successful, sales and marketing skills.
• Strong interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills. Ability to effectively interact with all levels of internal and external business partners.
• Candidate should be familiar with developing marketing plans and handling large, complex accounts.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite as well as other business-related software.


Education and Experience:
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
• Minimum 1 to 3 years of underwriting experience
