Marine Claim Recovery Specialist

Currently, Chubb is seeking a Marine Claims Recovery Specialist for the New York Team.
The Marine Claims Recovery Specialist will:
• Promptly conduct and/or direct investigation, evaluation and disposition of large, complex Marine subrogation claims including: marine Physical Damage, Inland Marine Transit, Motor Truck Cargo, Ocean Cargo, Air Cargo, Hull, Yacht and Mega Yacht.
• Maintain an active and well-documented diary as well as a favorable and productive file inventory. Manage a global network of surveyors, salvors and maritime attorneys to provide higher probability of recovery against liable parties.
• Evaluate exposure under International Law and Convention in an effort to maximize probability of recovery.
• Adhere to all statutory and Unfair Claims Practice Acts.
• Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with all external and internal customers.
• Proactively and aggressively control the use, work product and expenses of outside vendors.
• Efficiently utilize the Litigation Management Program to control the subrogation litigation inventory.
• Develop and maintain an outside panel/house counsel network and productive dialogue.
• Formulate litigation and recovery strategies with counsel and collaborate consistently throughout the subrogation process.
• Collaborate with the Marine Claim Unit examiners where appropriate and help the identification of potential recovery opportunities.
• Work closely with the Marine Underwriting Team by partnering with underwriting to better market our Marine Recovery service abilities.
• Maintain a reporting system to capture recovery dollars and expenses. Light travel is required.
Required Competencies/Technical Skills:
• 3-5 years of marine recovery and/or marine general liability claim handling experience.
• Expertise in marine coverages and the application of maritime law under numerous jurisdictions.
• Expertise in International Conventions and Regulations.
• Strong knowledge of tort law, contract law, jurisdictional law, admiralty law and liability concepts applicable to all marine claims.
• Candidate should also possess marine general liability and recreational marine claims knowledge.
• Candidates must have proven investigative skills with a proven ability to identify and gather relevant evidence.
• Possess the analytical and verbal skills both to formulate and execute a negotiation strategy.
• Candidate should possess a strong knowledge of liability theories and principles.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills as well as very good time and desk management skills.
• A good knowledge of industry trends, rules of evidence and legal regulations and requirements is essential.
• The candidate must demonstrate an ability to work in a collaborative fashion with a wide spectrum of people such as underwriters, producers and other internal and external customers.
• The aptitude to share and impart knowledge within a team environment is a strong benefit.
Education :
• College or University four year degree preferred or the equivalent work experience
This position offers flexibility with regard to the work location – can be based in New York City or out of our New Jersey office.
