Sr. Underwriter - Skilled in Technology & Life Sciences

The Life Science book is currently over $26,000,000 with a history of very profitable combined ratios.
As specialist in our Life Sciences niche, you would have responsibility for a book of business that falls into the following industries: pharmaceutical and/or R&D companies with drugs and/or devices in human clinical trials or on the market, as well as dietary supplement companies.
Position Responsibilities
• Drive financial performance of ~$5,000,000 book of business including property, products & premises liability, clinical trials liability, umbrella, auto, worker’s compensation and international coverages. Account size ranges from $50,000 - $500,000+. Book of business represented by approximately 10 – 15 agents in Boston region.
• Meet or exceed financial goals including growth, profit, retention, and new business.
• Provide technical support for the Life Science segment including Boston region book of business, acting as a referral resource for local underwriters.
• Assist in the creation of customized services for specified agents and insureds, interpret and compare global coverages and exposures in multiple jurisdictions.
• Predominately responsible for account solicitation, risk selection and analysis (including documentation), pricing and sales of TIS products and services for new and existing customers.
• Meet with new and renewal customers and agents/brokers to negotiate coverage, price, financial terms and service delivery.
• Build relationship with agents/brokers to meet or exceed financial goals and create effective business plans for assigned agents/brokers and territory.
• Work collaboratively and effectively with a team of underwriters, underwriting associates, customer service representatives, claims examiners, and loss control representatives.
• Develop technical expertise of underwriting associates.
• Meet or exceed service standards.
• Support local training effort to continue to perpetuate Life Science underwriting
Required Skills
• Minimum 5-7 years of Commercial underwriting experience. Ability to demonstrate strong Life Science underwriting skills in property, products & premises liability, umbrella, auto, worker’s compensation and international coverages.
• Proven track record of building strong business relationships with insureds, agents & brokers, industry associations and specialized service providers in order to enhance reputation and build brand in the territory.
• Ability to perform comprehensive competitor analysis, including products, capabilities, and appetites and strategies.
• Demonstrated ability to serve as a collaborative expert with colleagues, both experienced and lesser experienced.
• Demonstrated strong written and oral communication skills.
• Strong skill demonstrated in complex account analysis, prioritization, organization and detail orientation.
• Demonstrated leadership and proficiency in sales, marketing and negotiation of product line and additional services including Claims & Loss Control.
• Ability to work both independently and within a team environment using multiple internal and external resources appropriately and efficiently.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite as well as other business-related software.
Educational and Experiential Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
• Minimum 5 - 7 years of Commercial underwriting experience with strong Life Science underwriting skills
