Package Adjuster

Position Summary:
Under general supervision, performs a variety of tasks related to adjusting claims including but not limited to damage notifications and claims on lost or damaged packages while maintaining adequate quality and production levels.
Responsibilities:
Handles damage notifications by reviewing damage inspection report, notifying the shipper of damaged goods, obtaining and confirming shipping information and documenting pertinent information in the system.
Adjusts special program claims (i.e. Flex, UPS store, Cargo) following established processes and procedures.
Analyzes inspection report in system for claim details including packaging, items shipped, declared value, etc.
Evaluates packaging of damaged or lost package by interviewing the shipper, consignee and other relevant parties for further information when needed.
Obtains and reviews photos of damaged package.
Ensures pertinent information is documented such as proof of value, replacement cost, reparability and salvage status, shipping charges, etc.
Determines liability and damages based on investigation and review of contracts and coverage components.
Advises shipper of decision and sends appropriate claim form or denial letter.
Responds to attorney letters and other official correspondence relevant to a claim.
Completes daily production spreadsheet and submits to supervisor.
Enters information into system for statistical purposes.
Follows service standards of client and Company at all times for claims handling and reporting.
Education:
High school degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
Knowledge and Skills:
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Good organizational skills and attention to details.
Strong analytical and mathematical ability
Ability to analyze data and make appropriate recommendations.
Ability and willingness to learn related terminology, practices and regulations.
High degree of motivation and team orientation
Demonstrated typing ability, computer proficiency and ability to learn new software
Customer-service orientation with the ability to identify and understand customer needs.
Ability and willingness to learn about jurisdictional regulations of adjusting claims.
Experience:
Two years of experience in customer service, claims adjusting or related experience.
Decision Making/Interaction:
Frequent interaction with shipper and relevant parties to exchange information. Ability to handle claims with declared value up to $4500 as granted by supervisor.
Special Requirements/Certifications/Qualifications:
Required to obtain licenses for all jurisdictions within the unit and other states as needed for proper coverage. Must complete required continuing education courses to maintain license.
