Full-time Underwriting Manager

Currently, we have an exciting career opportunity for an Underwriting Manager at our Hatboro, PA office.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position is accountable for implementing underwriting standards and best practices for programs in a given production division and for directing the division’s underwriting team to ensure that underwriting results for its programs are consistent with established guidelines and profitable for both the company and the insuring carrier(s).

Essential Job Functions:
- Direct and coordinate the activities of division underwriters to ensure consistent application of underwriting guidelines and appropriate underwriting results.
- Underwrite complex cases and evaluate referrals from division underwriters in accordance with stipulated underwriting authority limits.
- Review and evaluate the underwriting performance of division business to ensure appropriate loss ratios; direct and coordinate any necessary remedial actions in concert with Chief Underwriting Officer and Business Unit Leader.
- Evaluate the performance of division underwriters, provide coaching and training as needed, and recommend appropriate compensation changes in accordance with the company’s performance management process.
- Develop and maintain constructive working relationships with account representatives in order to enhance their performance in attracting and retaining clients.
- Conduct periodic audits of underwriting files assigned to subordinates to ensure that quality, timeliness, and consistent best practices are being achieved.
- Provide advice and guidance to Business Unit Leader on regulatory matters and administrative procedures to ensure full compliance with state insurance department requirements for issuing policies and related documents.
- Complete a variety of underwriting and management assignments at the direction of the Chief Underwriting Officer and Business Unit Leader for the assigned Unit.

SPECIAL SKILLS REQUIRED:
- P&C License
- Demonstrated ability to successfully lead and manage others

MINIMUM WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- 10-15 years of demonstrated proficient technical underwriting expertise
- Demonstrated ability to successfully lead and manage others

MINIMUM EDUCATION:
Bachelor’s degree or commensurate education and/or work experience
