Position Summary:
Under moderate or specialized supervision, successfully resolves complex construction defect claims or other assigned losses by investigating, negotiating settlements, presenting evidence in legal proceedings while maintaining expected production levels; makes sales calls and presentations when requested.
Responsibilities:
Examines claims forms, policies and endorsements, client instructions and other records to determine coverages
Investigates claims by interviewing claimants and witnesses, obtaining official reports, by inspecting physical damage, by comparing claims information with evidence
Sets loss reserves and adjusts as needed
Prepares reports by collecting and summarizing information required by client, local, state and federal government and by Crawford & Company
Settles claims after determining insurance carrier’s liability, reviewing client’s instructions and authority levels required by obtaining demands and making offers to claimants, issuing settlement checks, making filings with regulatory agencies, pursuing subrogation when appropriate
Maintains expected case load
Presents evidence at legal proceedings producing reports and other documents as evidence.
Maintains company reputation and insurance products integrity by complying with federal and state regulations and service standards
Makes sales calls by calling on local business in order to solicit new business or maintain existing business
May assist less-experienced adjusters with claims handling
Strong general liability and litigation management background with experience in construction liability management and construction defect claims with proficient skills in coverage analysis and multi-party litigation
Demonstrated knowledge and ability in handling coverage trigger issues, aggregate exhaustion matters, completed operations exposures and cost containment initiatives is essential
Requires thorough understanding of contractual indemnity, common law contribution, equitable indemnity, additional insured endorsements and related risk transfer issues and concepts
Strong analytical, negotiation, communication and relationship management skills are necessary in managing and resolving complex litigation and critical liability apportionment and allocation issues between and among carriers and parties at interest
Strong decision making should entail timely probability evaluations that include pro-active disposition strategies that reflect appropriate and balance indemnity and expense objectives
Upholds the Crawford Code of Business Conduct at all times
Participates in special projects or performs duties in other areas as requested
Education:
College degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
Knowledge and Skills:
Good verbal and written communication skills
Good attention to detail
Strong analytical skills and mathematical ability
Good organizational and interpersonal skills
Computer knowledge
Experience:
Previous experience as a construction defect adjuster including complex claims
Special Requirements/Certifications/Continuing Education:
Must be licensed as required by state and local jurisdictions. Outside General Adjusters must have a valid driver’s license
