Full-time Machinery Breakdown Risk Engineer/Boiler Inspector – Based in Baltimore, Services Maryland Territory

The Chubb Group of Insurance Companies is currently seeking a Machinery Breakdown Risk Engineer to join our Washington, D.C. team. This position reports to our Washington, DC region and is domiciled in our Baltimore, MD office. The territory services Maryland. Overnight travel may be required.


Position Description:
• The position performs risk evaluations, evaluates exposures and controls, develops meaningful loss estimates, and communicates findings to business partners.
• Responsibilities include the application of critical thinking to determine the adequacy of controls, the likelihood of loss, the magnitude of loss, and the overall insurability.
• Position will conduct boiler and pressure inspections in accordance with jurisdictional rules by performing thorough examinations, identifying hazardous conditions, applying appropriate codes and standards, recommending corrective action, and submitting required reports.
• Explains to customer how these recommendations impact their business and appropriate courses of action.
• Position will also perform claims investigations which include evaluating the elements of the accident, extent of damage, damage verification, invoice review, and cause of loss.
• Provides risk improvement services to customers, including identifying exposures with significant loss potential, investigation of losses and evaluation of preventative maintenance management programs.
• Written reports will include evaluations of machinery breakdown and business interruption exposures, which will assist underwriters in evaluating risks and assigning proper premium for the exposure.
• Responsibilities include the development of risk improvement reports, recommendations and other risk assessment documentation. Build and maintain productive relationships with underwriting and service teams assigned to support the business, with the agent, with claims, and with clients.
• Manage workload within an assigned territory by utilizing all available resources. Take ownership of the territory and effectively prioritize, plan, and schedule work.
• Utilize technology resources for maximum efficiency.
• Respond to customer requests in a timely and professional manner.

Competencies:
• Qualified candidates will have a minimum of 3-5 years of experience inspecting boilers and pressure vessels.
• Candidate must have a sound proficiency in the inspection of boilers and pressure vessels, and experience with industrial, mechanical and electrical equipment.
• In addition, the candidate must be prepared to fulfill any additional requirements of each state jurisdiction in order to obtain state commissions.
• Other requirements include demonstrated proficiency related to PC and software applications and the ability to work independently from a telecommuting office.
• Time management and work planning skills are essential for delivering efficient and productive workflow.
• Teamwork and advanced communication skills are necessary to achieve business goals.
• Strong interpersonal skills, including basic business expertise, such as sales, ability to negotiate, and the capability to interact with a wide variety of customers are necessary.
• Additional competencies required include proficient writing skills, self-management, problem solving, and results orientation.
• Qualified candidates will be able to deliver timely, quality service and products to internal and external customers, and maintain effective relationships.

Education:
• High school degree and current National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel commission required.
• Two or four-year college degree in Engineering or Science is desirable, but not required.
• Current state commission in Maryland is desirable, but not required.


This position reports to our Washington, DC region and is domiciled in our Baltimore, MD office. The territory services Maryland. Overnight travel may be required.
