Full-time Senior Workers Comp Claim Examiner

The Chubb Group of Insurance Companies is currently seeking a Senior Workers Comp Claim Examiner to join its Warren, NJ branch.

• The direct handling of a caseload of approximately 130-150 intermediate to complex workers compensation claims in the state of New York
• Analyze first report to determine nature of loss, coverage provided, compensability and scope of injury/damage; also supervisor with the assignment of first reports
• Conduct timely and effective investigation, medical management, and disability management through effective use of internal and external resources (Special Investigative Unit, Telephonic Case Manager and Nurse Consultant) in compliance with Best Practices guidelines
• Timely and accurately create and manage indemnity and expense reserves and maintain reserves throughout the life cycle of all files with appropriate documentation supporting reserve changes
• Promptly and properly develop the facts of a claim through a comprehensive investigation, accurate fact based documentation and prompt contact with all knowledgeable parties
• Direct and control the litigation management process and expenses.
• Proactively manage a claim inventory and effectively negotiate cases to an acceptable resolution under moderate supervision
• Present cases, claim trends, new laws and regularly share expertise through the claim committee process as well as customer claim review meetings
• Encourage others to develop their technical skills through everyday interaction within the business unit and in support of strong team results.
• Recognize potential fraud and handle as appropriate
• Adhere to all statutory regulations and Unfair Claims Practices Acts
• Provide marketing related services to customers as requested
• Assist supervisor by providing technical support to examiners

The qualified candidate will have the following skills and proven work experience:

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, negotiation and analytical skills
• Demonstrated ability to deliver high caliber customer claim service
• Advanced listening and negotiation skills
• Advanced knowledge and attention to detail in insurance coverage and contracts, in investigating moderate to severe complex claims, as well as setting timely and accurate reserves
• Advanced in organizational skills to manage own claim inventory under moderate supervision
• The ability to develop and maintain strong business relationships with a wide spectrum of people internally and externally
• The ability to share knowledge within a team environment.
• Regularly shares expertise and provides constructive feedback in a team environment
• Must have experience handling and managing large national accounts.
• Must obtain and maintain necessary licenses.
• Some travel may be required

Education and Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience preferred
• 10+ years of claim handling required; preferably complex NY/NJ workers compensation claims

NY/NJ WC experience is required and additional New England/Mid-Atlantic jurisdictions preferred.
