Full-time SD Recovery Service Rep Multi-line Arbitration Desk

JOB SUMMARY:
Investigates, evaluates, negotiates and brings final resolution to basic to moderate recovery claim files that involve liability, possible multiple-defendant issues and deductible issues. Responsible for the disposition and of recovery claim dollars in accordance with claim and recovery best practice, state laws and company procedures within prescribed authority. Functions as a recovery service representative for recovery unit in all state(s).

RELATIONSHIP: Reports to Claims Recovery Manager.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Responsible for prompt and proper disposition of recovery claims within delegated authority. Handles recovery claim files that involve basic to moderate liability and multiple defendants issues. Reviews claim files to determine recovery potential. Contact examiner for additional information as needed. Direct independent adjusters and experts for investigation needed.
2. Evaluates legal liability, contracts and aggressively pursues, negotiates and resolves subrogation/contribution and deductible collection. Coordinates own file inventory to ensure timely resolution of cases. Negotiates appropriate disposition of claims including payment plans with responsible parties, their legal representatives and/or other insurance companies. Maintains files, pursuant to claim quality review guidelines and recovery best practices. May prepare files for arbitration and coordinate department in arbitration program.
3. Directs recovery counsel for resolution of recovery litigated claim files. May represent company as technical resource, attending legal proceedings (mediations, settlement conferences, special arbitration cases, etc.) as needed. Acts within established professional guidelines as well as applicable state laws.
4. Liaison with insureds, witnesses, attorneys, underwriters, claims, general agents and other parties on recovery activities. Maintains favorable working relationships with claim examiners and other personnel.
5. May be assigned the duty of working with vendor(s) to direct collection activities for uninsured/underinsured collection efforts.
6. Identifies recovery issues beyond expertise and authority and refers to manager/team leader.
7. Performs other duties or assignments.

Summary of Job Requirements:

Education/Knowledge:
Undergraduate studies preferred high school or GED required. State licenses where required. Professional development of general insurance courses preferred. Knowledge of General Agency system, state insurance department regulation, unfair claim handling regulations and good understanding of contracts. Assessment of liability/damages insurance coverage/contract interpretation, claim litigation process/procedures, collection practices and methods. Proven negotiation skills and best claims and recovery practices. Knowledge of conflict resolution techniques.

Experience:
2-4 years claims handling or recovery experience.

Skills:
With or without reasonable accommodation: analytic skills necessary to make decisions and resolve issues in deductible, arbitration, and legal arenas. Operate PC and job related software. With or without reasonable accommodation: the ability to effectively communicate interpersonally with individuals and groups. Effective, listening, oral and written communication skills for: customer contact, negotiation, and presentations. Ability to function in a team environment. Ability to develop and maintain open and trusting working relationships with individuals to gather pertinent recovery information. Ability to function as a team member.

JOB CONDITIONS:

Overtime Eligibility: Not Eligible (exempt)

Working Conditions: None.

Normal office environment. Occasional travel. May be located off-site when assigned field recovery role.
