Our Underwriters are responsible for blending analytical and marketing skills into an effective business style by applying analytical skills to the risk assessment process; developing solutions for global clients; cultivating relationships with agents and brokers while using influence to place business with Chubb; selling the Chubb difference in the marketplace; negotiating pricing and terms in a competitive marketplace that meet the clients needs and achieve a profit for Chubb.
Chubb Specialty Insurance (CSI)
Chubb's Specialty Lines department provides solutions to commercial customers from a wide variety of industries, within the public, private and not-for-profit sector. The lines of coverage include director's and officer’s liability, employment practices liability, crime, fiduciary, kidnap and ransom, errors and omissions and others. We will hire all CSI trainees in our NYC office. However, within one year, you could be placed as an underwriter in one of our other branches (within the Eastern territory), or elsewhere in the United States.
As a CSI Underwriter Trainee within the Eastern Territory you will be accountable and expected to:
•Actively participate in Chubb’s one year training program which includes a combination of self study, computer based, classroom and on the job training methods
•Develop proficiency in general insurance theories and practices as well as the specific underwriting strategies and procedure within (insert department)
•Develop an expertise in analyzing customer needs and develop insurance programs to meet those needs
•Contribute to the financial performance of the CSI team throughout the training period by assisting in the negotiating of price, coverage, and terms for new business and renewals
•Analyzing exposures, determining whether the risk meets Chubb’s underwriting criteria, proposing terms and pricing, and ensuring proper documentation
•Build relationships with agents and engaging in marketing efforts
•Identify opportunities for growth within new and existing production sources
•Identify cross sell opportunities within commercial products and services
•Meeting with producers and new and renewal customers to make sales presentations including product education and new product roll out
•Collaborating with underwriters, operations, claims, marketing and home office product management
•Consistently meeting service standards
•Collecting and sharing industry intelligence with team, including industry trending and development
Knowledge, skills and abilities:
•Demonstrated self starter
•Strong analytical skills including financial analysis
•Strong time management and prioritization skills
•Demonstrated aptitude in sales and marketing
•Strong interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills
•Ability to effectively interact with all levels of internal and external business partners
•Proven track record of superior performance and leadership
•Ability to be creative and adaptable in a changing business environment
•Demonstrated ability to develop creative, innovative solutions
•Sound, balanced and timely decision making skills
•Aptitude for evaluating, analyzing and interpreting information
•Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite as well as other business-related software
•Ability to relocate within one year to another Chubb branch
Education and Experience:
•Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
While the training will take place within the NYC Specialty Risk Center location, ability and willingness to relocate to other branches within the Eastern Territory is something all candidates should consider when applying.
