Full-time Recovery Manager - Claims

JOB SUMMARY:
Responsible for the leadership and management of a team of recovery professionals with the accountability to investigate, evaluate and resolve claims or lawsuits at all severity and complexity levels across all states. Participates in the development of strategic plans and objectives. Responsible for the development, coaching, training and mentoring of individual team members. Maintain and develop relationships with key customers or individuals. Responsible for the management and measurement of individual performance and team operational results including customer service, subrogation/recovery objectives and strategic alignment with division and corporate goals and objectives.

Reports to Director, Claims Recovery. DIRECT REPORTS: 8-15 direct; up to XX indirect

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Manages a commercial subrogation/recovery unit for all state(s) and international business. This includes recovery evaluation, aggressive negotiations, litigation strategies, vendor relationships, CQR reviews, and disposition of subrogation claims. Evaluates subrogation/recovery files for proper liability investigation, verification of damages and legal implements including deductible issues. Provides direction on further investigation strategy in core areas of evaluation, investigation and negotiations. Determines and resolves workload and assignments to ensure effective claims recovery processing, expense management and claims disposition.
2. Responsible for associate management including: performance management, salary planning and administration, training and development, workflow and organizational planning, hiring and placement, and disciplinary actions.
3. Develops and implement appropriate training initiatives; trains other company personnel on recovery processes as needed to ensure that proper level of expertise exists in the unit. Develops and implements recovery recognition and settlement training programs for both recovery and claims line units.
4. Plans and manages salary budgets. Develops, evaluates, recommends, and implements policies, procedures and strategies which have a direct impact on meeting the division/SIC plan. Monitors recovery plans, including the measurable key performance indications and objectives for recovery programs; assess and reports on units performance.
5. Develops and maintains positive working relationships with claims in support of seamless integration of recovery pursuits with claims handling. Responds to recovery inquiries from all areas including internal and external to company. Effectively applies Claims and Recovery Best Practices.
6. Promotes the achievement of the company's recovery objectives. Acts as a liaison with other staff and support activities, including systems, to deliver high performance and efficient transaction processing and management report mechanism to our recovery and claim line units.
7. Represent company at settlement conferences, trial, hearings, disputes and other external situations.
8. Performs other duties as assigned.

Summary of Job Requirements:

Education/Knowledge: Undergraduate studies, Professional development including completion of general insurance courses such as IIA and/or CPCU preferred. Management classes preferred.

Experience: Eight to twelve years of related work experience in recovery, including three to five years in a managerial role. Claims experience required.

Skills: Collection and negotiation techniques; State Insurance Department regulations; Unfair Claim Handling Regulations; and multi-line and multi-jurisdictional laws involving all aspects of subrogation/recovery and collection. Knowledge of insurance policy provisions, coverages and contracts; management of techniques including personnel administration, team building and training. Ability to manage subrogation/recovery personnel and processes including caseloads, management, business administration, arbitration and vendors. Computer literacy and use of applicable software. Oral and written communication skills used to interact with all levels of internal customers, investigative agencies, underwriting, all claims line personnel, other insurance carriers and the public. Ability to manager recovery personnel and processes including caseloads, management, business administration, arbitration and vendors. Ability to make decisions, establish priorities and set strategic direction. Must be able to articulate a vision for the recovery organization.

JOB CONDITIONS:

Overtime Eligibility: Not Eligible (exempt)

Working Conditions: None. Normal office environment. Occasional travel.
