Contract Commissioned Appraiser – Heavy Equipment

Ground Floor opportunity to help build Crawford’s Heavy Vehicle Appraisal Practice in the Southeast.
Summary of Role:
This commissioned position is one as an outside contract appraiser providing services on an as needed basis with no guarantees as to a minimum number of assignments.
Position Description:
On an as needed basis appraises on or off the road heavy equipment or similar vehicle losses providing accurate cost factors to include:
Damage verification
Repair costs
Replacement value
Salvage value
Analyzes and identifies cause and origin of various types of losses.
Responsibilities:
Examines damaged vehicles to determine total repair costs.
Utilizes standard labor and parts databases or manuals to determine replacement costs.
Obtains proof of loss or non-waiver as directed by customer.
Establishes cargo loss value, if applicable.
Evaluates salvage value for total losses.
Interprets client’s special instructions to accurately handle claims.
Negotiates charges with repair facilities for replacement costs and labor.
Prepares reports/documents as required.
Records case time/billings.
Education:
High school and/or vocational school graduate.
Technical training/certifications in heavy equipment repair is desirable.
Knowledge and Skills:
In-depth working knowledge of various types of vehicle construction and repair techniques.
Ability to read and interpret technical reference material.
Good verbal and written communication skills.
Strong Personal Computer skills with the ability to learn automated appraisal system.
Experience:
Minimum 2 years experience in heavy equipment repair.
Other Qualifications/Requirements:
Must have a valid drivers’ license and reliable transportation.
Must have a computer with an estimating software package installed (Mithchell, Penpro or Pathways).
Must have a digital camera.
Licensing as required by local jurisdiction is desired.
Candidates for this position must have clear results on a criminal background check, a nine panel drug screen and a driving record check.
Candidates will be required to sign a non-exclusive contract describing the nature of the work and the compensation paid for providing this service to our clients.
