Our Underwriting department is seeking an analyst to work on a broad range of projects related to automobile insurance. Ideal candidates will have the desire to work in an innovative and team-oriented environment, be self-motivating and have a strong work ethic. Candidates who seek new ways to creatively find and solve business problems, who look for opportunities to implement new processes and process improvements to workflows, are highly encouraged to consider this role. Additionally, candidates are required to have a solid foundation of analytical skills gained from related coursework and practical work experience.
Ideal Qualities and Education/Experience:
- BS or MS degree in actuarial science, mathematics, economics, statistics, or related field
- 1-3 years of work experience in an analytical role
- High proficiency with programming and data analysis; SQL or SAS preferred
- High level of intellectual curiosity
- Strong written and oral communication skills
Key Responsibilities:
- Department expert that has in-depth knowledge of all systems and processes, as well as data stores. Ability to investigate and answer all data-related inquiries.
- Coordinate and communicate needed changes to data stores as a result of business changes, test results to expectations.
- Develop requirements for new data stores, test results, communicate functionality to business.
- Responsible for maintenance of existing reports from understanding underlying data and queries as well as analyzing results and communicating reasons for trends to business. This includes troubleshooting when inconsistencies arise between results and expectations, documenting and applying appropriate changes when necessary.
- Assist in the design of new reports and/or data tables, develop, test and productionalize the final reports and tables as needed by the business.
- Ability to communicate to diverse audiences including technical and non-technical, senior management and fellow analysts.
- Ability to prioritize and multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
- Complete understanding of the business of insurance is required for this role after a short 6 month learning curve.
