Full-time Energy Underwriter

Currently, Chubb is seeking an Energy Underwriter for the Phoenix, AZ location.

Basic Functions of Job:
As one of the Western Underwriting Center's Energy Resource Specialty (ERS) underwriters you will be part of a diverse underwriting team accountable for contributing to the achievement of the Western Underwriting Center (WUC) and Corporate goals related to profit, growth, retention, service and producer/client relations. You will be responsible for underwriting of the center's ERS business produced from both the Eastern and Western Territory's. This position will handle sophisticated, multi-line risks in a fast-paced and challenging environment. This Underwriter will handle a $3-$5 million renewal book of business with accounts ranging from $25-$75K. The accounts will consist primarily of middle market multi-line package business and associated Auto, Workers Compensation, Umbrella and Environmental policies. The position includes responsibility for building and maintaining relationships with Specialty Energy producers, negotiating price, and managing profitability and retention.

Position Responsibilities:
As the Energy Resource Specialty Underwriter your responsibilities will include:
• Financial performance and underwriting responsibilities for an Energy related renewal book of business totaling $3-$5 million in written premium with an in-force policy count of 300-500 policies
• Achieving targeted rate, retention and new business/account rounding goals for your assigned territory
• Agency management including:
o Identifying and acting on account rounding opportunities
o Employing and managing strategies that positively impact retention and profitability
• Must be able to travel to your assigned territory to develop agency relationships
• Work closely with the ERS/Casualty Practice Leader in establishing a new ERS practice in the WUC, individual ERS underwriters in the territory branches, and associated OSD staff supporting the WUC/ERS business
• Meet WUC customer service standards in support of a customer focused strategy

Skills and Competencies:
Candidate must have demonstrated:
• Knowledge of commercial underwriting and insurance industry theories and practices
• Commercial lines technical expertise and product specific knowledge
• Knowledge of marketing principles, underwriting and pricing strategies and a demonstrated ability to adhere to underwriting strategies and guidelines
• Strong interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills and the ability to effectively interact with all levels of internal and external business partners
• Track record and orientation towards delivering superior customer service
• The ability to work effectively in a challenging and fast paced environment is essential
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite as well as other business related software

Education & Experience:
• Minimum of 1 to 3 years of commercial multi-line underwriting experience is required
• Bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent work experience
