Full-time Specialty Claim Manager

JOB SUMMARY:
Responsible for the leadership and management of a team of claim professionals with the accountability to investigate, evaluate and resolve claims or lawsuits of a more severe and complex nature, or a specialty line/program or risk of significant value to the organization. Develops departmental and strategic plans and objectives. Responsible for the development, coaching, training and mentoring of individual team members. Contact with external customers which involves maintaining, developing and influencing relationships with major customers or key individuals. Responsible for the management and measurement of individual performance and team operational results, including customer service, indemnity and expense outcome and strategic alignment with Division goals and objectives.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Responsible for the overall management and operation of the Team to include: tactical and strategic planning; annual budget preparation and monitoring; projecting human resource and customer needs; hiring, motivating, promoting, developing and disciplining a staff regardless of race, religion, national origin, gender, age or non-disqualifying handicap/disability.
2. Creates a working environment which fosters the achievement of the highest level of technical competency and professionalism with staff.
3. Responsible for the management and measurement of individual performance and team operational results, including customer service, indemnity and expense outcome and strategic alignment with Division goals and objectives.
4. Responsible for contact with external customers which involves maintaining, developing and influencing relationships with major customers or key individuals.

Summary of Job Requirements:

Education/Knowledge:
High School Diploma or GED required. College degree preferred. Completion of general insurance courses, such as IIA, AEI and/or CPCU preferred. Leadership/management classes and/or insurance technical classes preferred. With or without reasonable accommodation: multi-line, multi-jurisdictional, and E&S experience is helpful; knowledge of the General Agency system, state insurance department regulation, unfair claim handling regulations, and a good understanding of tort law. This position will require specific or advanced skill/knowledge in insurance lines or exposures such as Construction Defect Litigation, Toxic Tort and Class Action Litigation.and other specialty lines/risks, and/or large accounts.

Experience:
Minimum of seven years insurance claims experience, including a minimum of one year prior claims management experience. Additionally, proven experience handling and/or managing higher severity and/or complex claims and litigation is required.

Skills:
With or without reasonable accommodation: the ability to effectively communicate interpersonally with individuals and groups. Effective listening ,oral and written communication skills necessary for customer contact, negotiation, presentations, project management, personnel management, technical and non-technical contacts preferred.
