This Workers Compensation Technical Assistant position can be housed out of our New Jersey or New York City office.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
As a member of the Workers’ Compensation Claim team, this position is primarily responsible for advanced technical support of the claim handling process. This position will contribute to the delivery of superior customer service and technical file handling results.
Role and Responsibilities:
- Promptly complete initial contact assignments to gather pertinent facts necessary to assist the claim adjuster in making appropriate compensability decisions.
- Follow Best Practices guidelines for conducting effective initial contact investigations.
- Maintain an active diary to ensure the completion of contacts and follow-up on all claim activity (i.e. receipt of requested documentation, medical status)
- Adhere to all state jurisdictional law including regulations, statutes, case law and Unfair Claims Handling Practices.
- Timely and appropriate response to internal and external customers on claim related issues.
- Calculating workers’ compensation benefit rates, credits, deficits, interest, attorney fees and child support orders.
- Accurate and timely documentation of all claim handling activity in the claim file notes.
- Collaborate with the appropriate resources to ensure any outstanding issues are addressed and resolved in a timely manner.
- Manage files the examiners have resolved and have referred for handling per the examiners direction.
- Assist team members who are unavailable to perform their responsibilities ensuring team goals are met. Provide support to team members as needed.
- Complete claims and related assignments within established service standards and effectively prioritize work to manage activities and provide superior service.
Skills and Experiences:
- Proficient customer services skills to include verbal, written and interpersonal skills.
- An aptitude for evaluating, analyzing and interpreting information.
- Effective time management skill to include setting priorities and multi-tasking to accomplish assignments.
- Basic understanding of the workers’ compensation claim handling process.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Proficient computer skills to include knowledge of Lotus Notes and Microsoft Word.
Education:
- College degree a plus, but not required.
- Prior workers’ compensation experience preferred, but not required.
