Liability Claims Examiner
at Safeway Inc in Maryland
The Eastern Division's Risk Management Department, located in Lanham, Maryland has an opening for a Liability Claims Examiner.
Qualifications:
4 years college degree or equivalent experience.
3-5 years liability claims and litigation experience.
Must possess working knowledge of applicable premise liability case/common law.
Strong investigative abilities, written and recorded statement taking.
Excellent oral and written communications.
Superior analytical and negotiation skills.
Computer proficiency with basic claims system and Microsoft Office.
AIC designation is preferred.
Problem analysis, problem solving and decision making skills.
Ability to multi-task, meet tight deadlines and shift priority workloads.
High degree of integrity and confidentiality required.
Must be self-motivated, and enjoy taking an adversarial position in the interest of the Company on pertinent issues.
Familiarity with medical codes, terminology, conditions and procedures preferred.
Acceptable file review and PSR for internal candidates.
In current position 6 months for internal candidates.
Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Investigate, evaluate, and negotiate settlements of liability claims.
Coordinate with store managers and assistants for in-store settlements.
Communicate and support attorneys on Safeway's litigation cases.
Determine liability/negligence based on the case law in the state of division.
Maintain contact with non-attorney represented customers/claimants.
Manage litigated cases, answer interrogatories, and attend depositions, court hearings, and mediations.
Supervise investigations, and vendors.
Travel 20%.
Other projects as assigned.
Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications.
