Team Manager - Workers Comp

Position Summary:
Under general direction, supervises the investigation, management, & timely disposition of claims within account, carrier and/or company guidelines, & assists the Service Center Manager in managing the branch claim office.
Responsibilities:
Establishes & communicates performance standards & objectives, conducts performance appraisals. Recommends/approves salary adjustments, promotions, transfers & dismissals. Keeps staff informed of current problems, changes, & new developments in the department & company by conducting periodic meetings.
Monitors operations & staff & recommends, when necessary, changes in methods, procedures, structure, & additions or changes in personnel to secure optimum utilization of resources.
Installs and/or monitors the approved Corporate Productivity and/or Work Management Program, reports on productivity trends, & recommends & implements changes on an ongoing basis to improve productivity.
Reviews, analyzes, & assigns losses to the appropriate claim technician.
Reviews files on a periodic basis to determine accuracy & completeness &, if required, issues directives for further investigation, evaluation, negotiation, contributions from other parties, subrogation, arbitration and/or contact with legal channels.
Monitors the accuracy, completeness, & the appropriateness of billings (e.g. legal, medical, appraisal) when reviewing claim files.
Reviews reserve recommendations, establishes reserves & makes recommendations on reserves exceeding authority.
Provides the necessary guidance to unit personnel on investigations, appraisals of damages, liability, coverages, & settlement techniques.
Extends settlement authority as warranted and/or investigates & settles difficult cases as required or requested to assure proper investigation & disposition of all cases.
Reviews & assists in preparing suit cases for forwarding to legal counsel, checking to assure that coverages are not exceeded & legal reserves are adequate & confers with attorneys regarding these matters Attends trials, settlement conferences, mediations, & arbitrations, as required.
Assists in the preparation of account, carrier or broker reviews.
Organizes workflows of the Focus System & Claim Workstation to provide maximum productivity.
Assists in the training of new Claim Team Managers.
Ensures staff is in compliance with internal large loss reporting guidelines.
Performs other related work as required or requested.
Required:
Minnesota WC Adjuster License required or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire;
Attainment of the Associate in Claims designation
Completion of, or active study for, I.I.A. MGT 41, MGT 42, SM18 & SM19, or the equivalent in related studies or work experience
Where applicable, has passed state licensing requirements for line(s) of insurance handled
Demonstrates effective & diplomatic oral & written communication skills
Preferred:
Previous Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska and South Dakota workers compensation experience
Five or more years of progressive experience as a Claim Technician, or the equivalent
Education equivalent to graduation from college or the equivalent in related work experience
