The Richmond Chubb office is seeking a Specialty Insurance Practice Leader to be based in Richmond, Virginia responsible for managing and growing a $12,000,000 specialty lines book of business.
As a Chubb Specialty Insurance (CSI) Practice Leader, you are accountable for the financial results of the Richmond CSI book including profit and loss, growth, expense management and other budgetary considerations for all specialty business written in the assigned territory.
CSI includes 4 departments – Executive Protection, Department of Financial Institutions, ChubbPro, and Health Care. All of these departments are engaged in professional lines underwriting.
Job Responsibilities:
• Manages execution of new small/middle market underwriting and renewal strategy for the Richmond Branch relative to Executive Protection, ChubbPro & Health Care customer groups.
• Manages local producer plant. Responsible for cohesive and consistent agency management strategies.
• Coordinates marketing and production activities for entire portfolio of CSI businesses.
• Includes overseeing business and budget planning for all Specialty business produced within Richmond, including business serviced in remotely (Specialty Risk Center, Underwriting Servicing Branch, and Wholesale operations).
• Underwrites assigned book of business and sets strategies with Branch and Regional Leaders on key underwriting initiatives.
• Directs business development activities and provides guidance for implementing sales and/or product launches.
• Manages producer relationships and product education. Serves as agency coordinator for key local CSI driven producer relationships.
• Works closely with the Specialty Risk Center to manage and prospect complex specialty risks.
• Works closely with the Underwriting Servicing Branch to maximize renewal efficiency of small specialty business written.
• Works closely with the New Business Servicing center to drive new business efficiencies for identified products and key branch alliances.
Lines of Business:
All lines of business for segments as defined above. Profit and loss responsibility for all CSI business with direct responsibility for field (small-middle market) specialty business. Coordination, agency management, and production responsibility across CSI product portfolio. Will also support the Branch and Regional Leader in reporting and analyzing trends of CSI Richmond results.
Critical Competencies:
• Business Acumen: The preferred candidate will have 5+ years of underwriting and marketing specialty lines products. This should include a strong emphasis on private company sales and new business production specifically pertaining to the areas of Directors & Officers Liability, Employment Practices Liability, Fiduciary Liability, Miscellaneous Professional Liability and Crime Insurance.
• Leadership/Direction-Setting: Translates field CSI vision/strategy into effective operating plans. Demonstrated ability to effectively engage/motivate team members to achieve organizational objectives/results. Proven ability to manage remote team members.
• Relationship Management: Proven track record of building strong agency/broker relationships and strong sales, marketing, and negotiation skills. Knowledge of the Richmond market place including key competitors and established agency relationships are a bonus.
• Communications/Constituency Management: Communicates clear goals, strategies, and plans for field CSI operation. Influences and collaborates effectively with multiple stakeholders.
