The Boston Branch TIS Department has been the leading insurer of technology accounts in the region. The written premium in TIS book is currently over $36,000,000 with a history of profitable combined ratios.

As an Underwriter in TIS, you would have responsibility for a book of business that falls into the following industries: hardware manufacturers, software developers, technology service providers, and network service provides including federal government contractors, healthcare information technology, clean technology, and security. The ideal candidate for this position is a current multiline underwriter who is interested in a career progression that could include becoming an Underwriting Specialist for Information and Networking Technology accounts.

Position Responsibilities:
• Drive financial performance of $2,000,000 – $3,000,000 of a book of business comprised of approximately 20 accounts including but not limited to property, products & premises liability, errors & omissions liability, umbrella, auto, worker’s compensation, and international coverages. Account size ranges from $50,000 - $1,000,000+. Book of business represented by approximately 10 agents in the Boston region.
• Predominately responsible for account solicitation, risk selection and analysis (including documentation), pricing and sales of TIS products and services for new and existing customers.
• Meet with new and renewal customers and agents/brokers to negotiate coverage, price, financial terms and service delivery.
• Successfully create, or assist in the creation of, customized services for specified agents and insureds, identify new coverage and/or product needs in the market, and interpret and compare global coverages and exposures in multiple jurisdictions.
• Build relationships with agents/brokers to meet or exceed financial goals and create effective business plans for assigned agents/brokers and territory.
• Work collaboratively and effectively with a team of underwriters, underwriting associates, customer service representatives, claims examiners, and loss control representatives.
• Develop technical expertise of underwriting associates.
• Meet or exceed financial goals including growth, profit, retention, loss ratio, and new business.
• Meet or exceed service standards.


Required Skills:
• Possesses minimum of 3 – 5 years of multiline underwriting experience, preferably of Information & Networking Technology risks.
• Proven track record of building strong business relationships with insureds, agents & brokers, industry associations and specialized service providers in order to enhance reputation and build brand in the territory.
• Exhibits strong skills in Underwriting acumen in property, products & premises liability, umbrella, auto, worker’s compensation, E&O, and international coverages,
• Ability to perform competitor analysis, including products, capabilities, and appetites and strategies.
• Strong evidence of collaboration with colleagues of all levels of experience.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Complex account analysis, prioritization, organization and detail orientation.
• Proficient in sales, marketing and negotiation of product line and additional services including Claims & Loss Control.
• Working both independently and within a team environment using multiple internal and external resources appropriately and efficiently.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite as well as other business-related software.


Educational and Experiential Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
• Minimum 3 – 5 years of multiline underwriting experience, preferably of Information & Networking Technology risks
