Full-time Ind Adjuster Bill Auditor

JOB SUMMARY:
Responds to and processes on-line and manual independent adjuster bills submitted by independent adjuster firms. Reviews, analyzes, evaluates, and audits invoices to determine compliance with billing guidelines. Works closely with claim representatitves and Vendor Relations staff to assure adherence to the billing guidelines and provides feedback regarding billing performance of independent adjuster firms.

RELATIONSHIP: Reports to Manager, Claims Legal Audit

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Reviews, analyzes and audits invoices submitted by independent adjusters to reduce overcharges consistent with billing guidelines. Confers with claims examiner and Vendor Relations, when necessary, in order to verify that bills have been correctly computed and to identify billing abuses and overcharges inconsistent with billing guidelines. Cooordinates complex and/or large dollar invoices with a senior auditor.
2. Makes appropriate reductions to the bills as a result of overcharges identified during the audit process consistent with billing guidelines. Returns the invoice with a recap or letter explaning the reduction of charges and an itemization of overcharges. Completed invoices are forwarded to check processing.
3. Effectively communicates the rationale supporting the reduction in charges to independent adjusters, agents and insureds who may call to dispute the reduction in charges. Communicates with claims support/check processing as necessary to ensure timely processing of payments. Complies service invoice audit data through the use of the personal computer as requested by supervisor.
4. Provides support to the legal bill audit process, including but not limited to, the administrative process as well as the review, analysis and audit of non-complex and/or small dollar invoices as assigned by management. Works with support staff and auditors in Legal Audit, Vendor Relations and claim examiners as necessary or required, including special projects assigned by management.
5. Assists administrative support staff with technical requests as necessary/required.

Education/Knowledge:
High school diploma or equivalent required. Some college education in insurance, business, finance, management, legal or related fields preferred. Knowledge of claims process and independent adjuster services and invoicing practices preferred.

Experience:
One to two years prior insurance claims and/or adjusting related experience preferred. Prior experience dealing with outside vendors desirable.

Skills:
Basic computer keyboard skills are required. Basic math skills are required to verify that independent adjuster service invoices have been correctly computed.Audit/analytical skills are necessary to accurately identify billing abuses and overcharges inconsistent with billing guidelines. Ability to clearly and concisely communicate via the telephone, fax, mail, and e-mail including the ability to employ elements of persuasion. Professionalism, tact and diplomacy are required in all communications with independent adjuster firms, agents, insureds, and other divisions.

JOB CONDITIONS:

Overtime Eligibility: Eligible exempt

Working Conditions: Normal office environment. Overtime as required.
