Full-time Senior Claim Examiner - 5+ Years of Claim Handling Experience

Our award winning Claims Department has an exciting career opportunity for an individual who enjoys independent problem solving and utilization of their interpersonal and collaboration skills to build relationships with insureds, agents and internal business partners. This claims examiner position will be based in our Simsbury, CT office.

The job responsibilities include the following:
Responsibilities include the direct handling of a caseload of approximately 100 complex claims/suits from initial notice to claim resolution. All claims must be handled according to Specialty Best Practices Guidelines. Specific responsibilities include investigation of the loss, analyzing coverage, interacting with defense counsel and actively participating in cost management initiatives, determining liability, damages and exposure and reserving the claim file accordingly, and negotiating or identifying creative means to resolve the claim.

Responsibilities will also include participation in mediations, ADR forums, and monitoring trials and other judicial proceedings when necessary. Additional responsibilities include providing marketing or marketing-related services to customers as requested and serving as an effective and proactive technical resource to staff in all classes of business. Strong verbal and written communication and presentation skills required.


Competencies/Skills Required:
Candidate should possess proven investigative techniques and familiarity with insurance contracts and related coverage. Candidate should have excellent communication (written/oral), negotiation and presentation skills. Additional competencies needed include advanced organizational and time management skills and strong analytical skills. Candidate must also possess the ability to interrelate with a wide range of people, be team-oriented and eager to partner with others. The candidate must be accepting of new challenges (embrace changing responsibilities as business needs require) and must have the ability to work with minimal supervision.


Education & Experience:
• 5+ years of claim handling required; preferably highly complex, litigated claims.
• College degree preferred.
