Director Writing – Communication Serivces/ Request for Proposals

JOB SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Vice President, Communication Services, the Director, Writing is responsible for ensuring overall quality of the Communications projects – including RFP responses, as well as external and internal communications jobs – with elements such as adherence to technical and stylistic requirements and consistency with established themes, messaging and AGP differentiators. In this role, tactical execution is necessary to verify the data and information conveyed, AGP assertions and commitments and to revise the content to ensure a clear unified voice. Within the department, he/she works with VP, Communications, Manager Writers, Associate Writers, Communications, Coordinator and Art Director/Graphic Designer to write, edit and proofread printed and online materials, before and after design process. Submits all documentation and forms to obtain necessary approvals of text from internal Company business owners and government regulatory agencies. The Director, Executive Writing will write and edit with keen attention to grammar, style, format, and consistency according to appropriate style guide; serving as a leader within the department (to designers and other writers) and outside the department to executives, associates and outside organizations.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Responsible for reviewing, editing and upgrading executive and internal communications and RFP content received from others.
2. Create or refine such documents employing high editorial standards, an ability to cite passages that may require clarification and supporting proof/data points, verifying and amending content/data gaps, confirming strategy/product alignment, and embedding a degree of “Institutional Voice” that supports the efforts of the Communications department including business development efforts.

Supervise the processes/procedures and document management.
4. Responsible for executive communications, internal communications and RFP response content with AGP strategy and product alignment, which includes verifying technical adherence to RFP requirements and strategic adherence to marketing themes and AGP differentiators.
5. Conduct several reviews of
1) Communications, both internal and external;
2) Ensuring singular voice;
3) Maximization of differentiating factors including messaging; and
4) Grammar, spelling and other technical writing issues.
6. Take ownership of creating and updating, Government Relations materials, Collaterals, Sample RFP responses, in addition to working closely with others on the ongoing development of and/or upgrades to new and existing proposal response content.
7. Help to coordinate strategic alliances and solidify stakeholder relationships across the organization.
8. Responsible for proactively communicating with all internal team members to ensure a smooth communication process, and job completion process. This position requires subject matter mastery and the ability to clearly define the need and expectations for the individuals who are involved in the proposal response and other Communications projects completed (included but not limited to white papers, press releases, executive emails, Government Relations collaterals, Investor Relations support on Annual Report and more, internal Communications initiatives, Associate Services communications, internal and external events needing Communications support).
9. Responsible for taking a leadership role within the department and will participate in constructive assistance to other writers (to include direct report(s)) within Communications Services. .
10. Develop and implement processes and tools that constantly challenge all writers to refine their craft and better meet the needs of internal and external constituents. This also includes working with designers to develop the best possible communications product for the particular project/job requestor and audience involved.
11. Respond to inquiries from internal executives and associates, as well as outside organizations – representing the department and AMERIGROUP in a professional, clearly communicated manner.
12. Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Required: BA in Marketing, Business, Health Administration, Communications, Journalism, Advertising or English.
Preferred: Masters Degree in Marketing, Business, Health Administration, Communications, Journalism, Advertising or English.
Years and Type of Experience
Preferred:
• 10+ years experience in executive or technical writing, business development with at least 5 years experience in the completion of RFPs, RFIs and due diligence requests in the health care industry.
• Working knowledge of Medicaid managed care terminology
Specific Technical Skills
Required:
• Extensive knowledge of style guides and/or other writing conventions.
• Extensive knowledge of grammar and punctuation rules.
• Extensive experience meeting the needs of a variety of audiences through multiple communications formats.
• Advanced attention to detail and keen eye for errors.
• Full understanding of MS Office product suite (with a focus on Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
• Superior editing and writing skills.
• Preferred: Broad knowledge of word processing, graphics, and printing processes and software for document production.
• Managed care terminology.
• Health care knowledge preferred.
• Advanced editing/writing and project management skills
